Not every Saddlery performs every task. The mix changes with the employer, sector, workplace, equipment and level of responsibility.
TOOLS & TECHNOLOGY
saddler's awls, needles and stitching clamps, round knives, skiving and edge tools, sewing machines and strap cutters, saddle trees, fitting forms and measuring systems, riveting, punching and hardware-setting tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS
fine repetitive hand work; sharp tools and heavy leather; dust, dyes, adhesives and finishes; custom-client deadlines; inactive Ontario apprenticeship registration.
SAFETY FIRST
Training, supervision, safe procedures, appropriate PPE and stopping when conditions are uncertain are essential. Requirements vary by workplace and assignment.

ADVANCED SPECIALIZATIONS
These are advanced work directions within or adjacent to Saddlery, not promises of separate credentials or pay. Requirements vary by employer, equipment, experience and any additional training or authorization.
Build, fit and repair jumping, dressage and all-purpose saddle types.
Construct and rebuild roping, ranch, trail and performance saddles.
Produce and repair breastcollars, bridles, traces and vehicle-driving equipment.
Assess horse-and-rider fit and adjust panels, trees or padding where appropriate.
Replace rigging, billets, stirrup leathers, seats, skirts, hardware and worn components.
