What is the Roofer trade?
A Roofer installs, repairs and replaces flat and sloped roofs involving a variety of materials with different application methods including shingles, slate, shakes, and roofing tiles on sloped roofs and membrane systems. Specifically, a Roofer:

heat welders, seam probes and membrane tools, nailers, cutters and shingle tools, hoists, kettles and material-handling equipment, moisture scanners and infrared inspection tools, guardrails, anchors and personal fall-arrest systems.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Understand the environment
continuous fall hazards and edge work; heat, cold, wind and changing weather; hot materials, adhesives and open flame; heavy repetitive material handling; seasonal schedules and emergency leak response.

Training, supervision, safe procedures, appropriate PPE and stopping when conditions are uncertain are essential. Requirements vary by workplace and assignment.
