What is the Construction Boilermaker trade?
A Construction Boilermaker builds, installs, erects, tests, maintains and repairs all types of boilers, tanks and pressure vessels, and performs all types of structural and plate work on dust, air, gas, steam, oil, water and other liquid-tight pressure vessels. Specifically, a Construction Boilermaker:

A Construction Boilermaker builds, installs, erects, tests, maintains and repairs all types of boilers, tanks and pressure vessels, and performs all types of structural and plate work on dust, air, gas, steam, oil, water and other liquid-tight pressure vessels. Specifically, a Construction Boilermaker:
Not every Construction Boilermaker performs every task. The mix changes with the employer, sector, workplace, equipment and level of responsibility.
- works from fabrication drawings (prints) to fabricate components from steel or other materials
- uses various metal forming machines such as rotary shears, punch pressess and bending rolls
- tests boiler systems for leaks, defects and other deficiencies to ensure they are operating safely and efficiently
- attaches rigging and works with hoisting devices to lift components into place
WORKING CONDITIONS
Understand the environment
confined spaces and significant heights; heavy lifts and stored energy; heat, noise and welding fumes; travel, shutdowns and extended shifts; pressure-boundary quality requirements.
SAFETY FIRST
Learn the hazards before the task
Training, supervision, safe procedures, appropriate PPE and stopping when conditions are uncertain are essential. Requirements vary by workplace and assignment.

These are advanced work directions within or adjacent to Construction Boilermaker, not promises of separate credentials or pay. Requirements vary by employer, equipment, experience and any additional training or authorization.
Boiler erection and repair
Assemble pressure parts, drums, tubes and supporting structures.
Pressure vessels and tanks
Fabricate and install coded vessels for industrial processes.
Heavy plate fabrication
Form, fit and weld thick steel components to drawings.
Rigging and hoisting
Plan and execute controlled movement of large assemblies.
Industrial shutdowns
Inspect and repair critical equipment within compressed outage schedules.
Nuclear and power generation
Work under rigorous procedures, documentation and quality programs.
Project leadership
Advance into foreperson, welding supervision, planning, inspection or contracting.
